May Newsletter: Gratitude- The Fundamental Ingredient to Humanity

Our lives as human beings are intertwined and intermingled, and we can never, at any moment, say we were self-made, as there is no such thing! Somewhere, somehow, there was someone who invested in you in some shape or form. We often lose sight of this reality and go around with a chip on our shoulders and pride in our hearts. This is where the sickness starts—yes, it starts with pride! Let me not confuse you: yes, we need to have self-worth and be confident about how we move forward, but if we are forgetful about the people in our lives when things were tough and difficult to bear, we are people who lack gratitude.

I have seen an epidemic of ungrateful people, people who cannot apologize or say thank you because all of a sudden they think they are too big for this belittling action—this is the beginning of the fall! These are people who refuse to see or acknowledge the people who have invested in them—they would rather deflect the issue to the other person with ease. The most extraordinary thing about being human is the ability to change and correct ourselves, but when you reach a point where you feel that you are above correction, you are in essence inhuman!

There are many who claim to be religious, but are they truly practicing the principles of any great religion? The fundamental tenets of any world faith have always been love and courtesy; if you lack these, you lack everything! So let us return to our humanity, shed our pride, and live a life appreciating the many blessings people have been in your life—your life will grow richer and more clear day by day!

This Month in the Kitchen, we will make sprouted moong dal salad and discuss the winged bean in our Ingredient Section. We will later discuss the neurological changes that can happen in obesity in our Monthly Why section—as always, I wish you to keep your health at the center of your focus and live long and strong!
