Why do we need to avoid synthetic dietary emulsifiers:

Synthetic Dietary emulsifiers like polysorbate 80 and carboxymethylcellulose ( cellulose gum) are sometimes added to ice creams, salad dressings, sauces, condiments and other processed foods. They are also sometimes found in toothpaste and laxatives. Unfortunately these synthetic emulsifiers have been linked to the causation of various ailments and we will explore the deleterious effects of these emulsifiers:

  • Science links inflammation to the long term risk in cancer development. Low grade inflammation can be caused by the consumption of synthetic emulsifiers.

  • Synthetic emulsifiers seem to alter the microbiota within our digestive system, this may aid in the process of inflammation and cancer development.

  • Synthetic emulsifiers may also play a harmful role in the mucosal barrier of our intestinal tract causing a condition called leaky gut syndrome. This may allow the intestinal tract to absorb harmful bacteria, toxins and partially digested food into our bloodstream.

  • Alteration in the gut mucosal barriers can contribute to the development of obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and cancer.

Having explored the effects of synthetic emulsifiers it is important to conclude that natural whole foods are far better than processed foods. My advice is to invest in your health and make diligent and smart choices by staying well informed. As always I hope that you live long and strong!
